NEC subsidiary NEC LCD Technologies announced they will close their Kagoshima Prefecture plant by the end of the year. With the sharp downturn in demand for industrial-use LCD displays since last fall, the company plans to consolidate production at its Akita plant. About 370 people work at the plant, and the company will offer them early retirement.
