A new Kitakyushu snack called nukadaki menbei went on sale at souvenir shops inside the city from February 6. The nukadaki (sardines boiled in rice-bran paste) flavored rice crackers were revealed at a ceremony in the Kitakyushu City Hall. The event was attended by the Kitakyushu Mayor Kenji Kitahashi and the president of a mentaiko (spicy pollock roe) manufacturer. Mayor Kitahashi told the attendants that the snacks have a real impact and go great with a glass of beer. The product took two years to develop and will help raise the profile of nukadaki, which is one of Kitakyushu’s local specialities. Source: TNC, 2/6/2018
