Stone remains were discovered on the premises of Kyushu University’s Hakozaki campus, which are thought to be a segment of the Genko Borui wall. The wall was built in the Kamakura period along Hakata Bay to fend off potential attacks by Mongol forces. The section of the discovered wall runs for approximately five meters from south to north and comes after the remains found last year in the same area. Groove-shaped remnants were also unearthed and are believed to have been dug to reinforce the wall. The discovery is expected to help shed light on the entire Genko Borui. Source: TNC, 6/26/2017
