On January 17, Fukuoka Prefecture reported 300 new coronavirus infections, setting a record single-day count for a Sunday. During the first weekend after the issuance of the second state of emergency, the number of people who visited the areas of Tenjin and Hakata dropped only slightly compared to the previous weekend. It was also reported that some people lined up at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine to pray for successes during the juken season (entrance exams for universities, colleges, and other schools.)
