Six months have passed since Japan introduced a new residential status for “specific skilled workers,” however, the number of foreigners applying for the new visa in Kyushu remains under twenty at just nineteen. Amongst them, eleven persons reside in the prefecture of Fukuoka, seven in Nagasaki, and one in Oita. According to a report by the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, only 219 people currently residing in Japan are on the new visa as of the end of September, which is only 2% of the government’s target.
