Kurume University Honkan (main building) World Peace Pagoda in Kitakyushu and seven more places in Fukuoka Prefecture will be registered as Japan’s tangible cultural properties. The history of the Kurume University building goes back to 1929, and the classic architecture with Romanesque-style decorations has always been the symbol of the university. On July 17, a national committee requested designating those spots to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. Once the proposals are approved, the number of such properties in Fukuoka will become 180. Sources: Saga / Mainichi
