Itoko Shindo, a real estate developer who had planned to build an apartment building in Nishi-ku, abruptly decided to build a water filling station after potable hot spring water was discovered under the building site. “I decided to cancel the apartment building plans so that more people could enjoy this delicious water. I would like to make it into a local destination,” said Shindo. Located about 70 m underground, the 16 degree water flows out at 266 L/min. Users can fill containers at one of five spigots at a cost of ¥100 for 5 L or ¥200 for 12 L. The hot spring water was found last January when a water well was drilled on the prospective building site. After Ms. Shindo had the spring water tested by the Prefecture, she found contained substances deemed effective for treating digestive disorders. Nishinippon Shimbun, Aug. 3
