Nishi-Nippon Railroad said three employees of a subsidiary handling lost property misappropriated funds from IC cards turned in by passengers, with total losses exceeding ¥140,000. The employees, all in their 50s and 60s, were involved between June and December last year. One employee at Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station reportedly took 61 IC cards and used remaining balances for personal purchases. In addition, 21 other IC cards with balances totaling about ¥80,000 remain unaccounted for. The misconduct came to light when a returned card’s usage history did not match a customer’s explanation. Nishitetsu said it is considering disciplinary action and has tightened controls, including improved record-keeping and expanded station security camera coverage. Source: TBS NewsDig / RKB , NHK News
