Nishitetsu Plans First Bus Fare Hike in 25 Years

Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co., has revealed plans to hike bus fares in the Fukuoka and Kitakyushu areas. From January next year, the base fare will rise from 170 yen to 210 yen. This is the first such increase in Nishitetsu’s bus fares in 25 years. Nishitetsu President Hayashida announced these plans at a press conference on the 15th, outlining the fare increase for the group’s six bus routes in Fukuoka and Kitakyushu. The increase is estimated to be between 12% and 16% on average. The higher fare will apply to most areas currently priced at 170 yen. Nishitetsu submitted this proposal to the government today, aiming for fare adjustments from next January. If approved, this will be the first fare hike since 1998, excluding the increase due to the consumption tax hike, marking a 25-year period. Source: Nishitetsu / NHK
