In December, Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu) is set to launch a pilot test for autonomous buses on the public roads of Kitakyushu City. This experiment aims to validate the capabilities of large buses in navigating routes using 3D mapping and GPS. The 10.5 km test route will connect Kitakyushu Airport to JR Kusami Station and will operate under Level 2 autonomy, meaning a driver will still be present to monitor the vehicle’s functions.
