Nishitetsu To Raise Train Fares In April

Nishitetsu will increase fares across all rail lines, including the Tenjin-Omuta, Dazaifu, Amagi, and Kaizuka lines, starting April 2026. The base fare will rise from ¥170 to ¥180, with larger increases on longer routes—for example, ¥240 to Ohashi (+¥20), ¥720 to Kurume (+¥80), and ¥1,140 to Omuta (+¥90). Commuter passes will rise by an average of 15.6%, and student passes by 9%. President Hayashida cited population decline, rising costs from inflation, safety investments, and labor expenses as reasons. If approved, this will be the first major fare hike since 1997, excluding tax adjustments. Source: Nishitetsu
