Number of Foreigners Entering Kyushu Decreasing

According to an announcement by the Kyushu District Transportation Bureau, the number of foreigners who entered Japan via Kyushu between January to June 2019 decreased by 5.9% compared to the same period in 2018. Fewer cruise ships from China as well as decreased number of tourists from Korea are two factors leading to the first drop over eight years. At the press conference, the bureau head pointed out the area’s dependency on China and Korea in tourism and stressed the importance of attracting people from other parts of the world.
