Nurturing the Next Banana Auctioneers: Moji Port Banana Juku

The “Moji Port Banana Juku”, a course designed to preserve the tradition of banana auctioning, has commenced in Kitakyushu City. The tradition, dating back to the Taisho era, involves selling bananas that ripened during transit at discounted prices. Over 20 individuals aged between 23 and 82 have enrolled this year to learn the lively art of banana auctioning. The training, which includes ten lectures, extends until October. Participants are expected to gain valuable skills, like speaking up in public. The initiative, headed by Kazuo Mazaki, aims to maintain this unique tradition through engaging communication.
