Oita Considers Introducing Lodging Tax

Oita Prefecture held its first meeting of the Tourism Promotion Revenue Review Panel to discuss the potential introduction of a lodging tax. The ten-member group, including academics and tourism stakeholders, will meet five times this fiscal year to examine implementation feasibility, tax rates, and usage of potential revenue. The review follows a similar initiative by Beppu City and aligns with national laws on non-statutory local taxes. In Fukuoka Prefecture, lodging taxes are already in place at both the prefectural and municipal levels. Source: NHK
