Oita’s New Mayor Plans Free School Lunches

Former House of Councilors member Shinya Adachi was elected unopposed as Oita’s mayor and announced his top priority of addressing the declining birthrate. Adachi plans to support all ages, from pregnancy to the completion of higher education, and aims to implement free school lunches in public junior high schools as soon as possible. He also discussed revitalizing 13 areas within the city by utilizing their unique features and increasing visiting populations through exchanges. Adachi’s term will last four years, starting on the 23rd, marking the first uncontested Oita mayoral election in 72 years. Source: Nikkei
