The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) has announced plans to outsource the running of operations at Fukuoka Airport, with minimum bids to secure management rights for a 30-year period set at 161 billion yen. The sale will in part fund the planned expansion of the runway, which is due to be completed by 2024. Any company successful in acquiring the rights will be required to obtain the shares of the Fukuoka Airport Building, which oversees the running of the terminal buildings, in their entirety at a cost of 45 billion yen. As such, the project is set to exceed 200 billion yen in total. The selection committee dealing with the implementation of this plan will include representatives from the national, prefectural and city levels. MLIT will be holding negotiations with prospective owners from August 2017, with the aim of announcing their choice in May of next year. Source: Nikkei Shinbun, 3/24
