Osprey aircraft took to the sky over Kumamoto on the night of Dec. 11 as part of the joint training exercises being conducted by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and US Marine Corps at the Army National Guard Oyanoharaenshuba in Yamato. This represents the first time that this form of US military aircraft has flown over Kyushu at night. The Kyushu Defense Bureau confirmed that two aircrafts flew in from the Iwakuni air base in Yamaguchi after the sun had set. The JGSDF apologized for providing incorrect information about the exercises after initially telling the press that there would not be a training drill on the night of Dec. 11.
