Application has been made to the Ministry of Education for the designation of the Oura Cathedral in Nagasaki City, already a designated national treasure, as a national historical landmark, as well as designation as an important cultural landscape, along with three other sites in Kyushu. The cathedral is the oldest Christian church in Japan. The designation is expected to be approved.
