Pet Funeral Service To Begin

AEON Kyushu, a large retail company, announced on June 19 that they will start an intermediary service for pet funeral homes and cemeteries on July 1 in Fukuoka and Oita prefectures. The company senses strong demand from pet owners who want to commemorate their pets’ death as they do for their own family. AEON entered the intermediate agent business in 2012 in other parts of Japan. Four pet morticians in Fukuoka Pref. satisfy AEON’s sanitary and customer-care criteria. AEON aims to provide a comprehensive services from transportation of a deceased pet to cremation and final placement of the urn. It receives orders and introduces the most suitable company at its 24-hour call center. The fee varies depending on the size and kind of the pet, and the style of funeral. AEON will take intermediary charge based on the fees paid. According to a Yokohama-based national pet cemetery association, over half of those who lost their pets still bring them to the local government for disposal or bury them in their own yard. However, more and more people tend to hold a memorial service for their beloved ones and have them rest in the special cemetery. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 6/20
