Poor Rice Harvest for Kyushu in 2019

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries announced the index ratings for 2019 rice production on October 31, and the Kyushu region came in at 87, categorized as “not good” for the first time over the past thirteen years. A strong typhoon, as well as a pest issue, significantly affected the regional harvest this year and led to the worst score within the nation’s ten regions. Meanwhile, the score for the whole country was 99, a slight fall (-2 points) from the previous year but remained categorized as “average.” Source: Asahi Shimbun, 11/1/2019
