The Oita prefectural police will use portable speed cameras in a bid to crack down on dangerous driving. Many drivers were aware of the locations of existing, fixed cameras and knew how to avoid getting caught for speeding. Following their introduction in Aichi and Toyama, this is the first time that such measures have been implemented in Kyushu. The new cameras will detect speeding vehicles, their plate numbers, and the face of the driver. Tickets will be handed out to offenders at a later date, which will help the police catch drivers speeding in areas where it can be difficult to make people pull over.
