The privatization of Fukuoka Airport has been completed, and the start of the new management was celebrated at a ceremony on April 1. A joint organization of Kyushu Electric Power Co. (Kyuden), Nishi Nippon Railroad Co., Ltd. (Nishitetsu), and other companies under the name Fukuoka International Airport (FIAC) will run the terminal building as well as the airport’s runways. FIAC targets to double the number of routes from Fukuoka Airport to 100 and annually attract 8 million visitors by opening a new commercial complex. At the ceremony, the company president Tetsuya Nagasao showed eagerness to “expand the international flight network by inviting flights to countries in Europe, US, and Australia in addition to East Asia.” The company also announced that it would open two new duty-free shops in the international terminal.
