According to Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency, there are 3,455 public facilities in the seven prefectures of Kyushu with either inadequate or unconfirmed earthquake-proofing. The figures for every prefecture except Fukuoka are below the nationwide average of 82.6%. While progress has been made on schools and gymnasiums, work on government office buildings and community centers is behind schedule due to ballooning costs. Particular buildings pointed out for possible damage in an earthquake include Nagasaki City Hall and the 54-year old Omuta (Fukuoka) City Hall. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 3/3
