Real-Time Yatai Status via LINE in Fukuoka

Fukuoka City has introduced a new service on its official LINE account that allows users to check the real-time operational status of all Yatai (food stalls) to attract more visitors and address the inconvenience caused by uncertain operational statuses due to weather. The service, launched on July 24, extends to stalls in the popular areas of Nakasu, Tenjin, and Nagahama.

This innovative system detects when the stalls’ lights are turned on, automatically updating their status to “Open” on the LINE account. This allows users to see which Yatai are currently operating without having to visit the locations in person. Additionally, the service includes an AI-powered feature that provides personalized Yatai recommendations based on user preferences and current location, communicated in the local Hakata dialect for added charm.

Fukuoka City’s Mayor, Soichiro Takashima, emphasized the importance of this digital transformation, stating that the service not only enhances convenience for both first-time visitors and locals but also represents a significant step in updating the city’s traditional Yatai culture. The service is part of a broader effort to leverage digital technology to improve local tourism and enhance the customer experience. Source: Fukuoka City
