The number of non-Japanese workers in Fukuoka Prefecture as of October 2018 reached 46,273, which is the highest since the number was first recorded in 2007. According to the report by Fukuoka Labor Bureau, 6,845 more foreigners were working in Fukuoka Prefecture comparing to the year before. More than 7,600 companies are now hiring workers from overseas. Nationality-wise, Vietnamese workers make the most significant part of the total with 13,894 persons, followed by Chinese and Nepal workers. The number of trainee workers (10,624) had increased the most significantly, by 28.5% since 2017. The Bureau is willing to cooperate with the employers to improve the working environment for those international workers, seeing the start of the nation’s new visa system in April.
