The Fukuoka Branch of Teikoku Databank revealed the results of its survey showing that companies in Kyushu and Okinawa Prefecture are less likely than those nationwide to be interested in establishing a presence overseas. The percentage of local companies with overseas subsidiaries or international tie-ups was 7.3% in 2011, 2.5 percentage points below the national averages. Only 10.3% of local companies are considering establishing an overseas presence in three years, 3.4 percentage points below the national average. Teikoku Databank attributes this to the executives’ low international awareness, due in part to the fact that most of the companies are in industries that rely on domestic demand.
