Regional Shipbuilding Volume Hits 5.65 Million Tons
The Kyushu Transport Bureau announced that the aggregate amount of large ships built in Kyushu and western Yamaguchi Prefecture in FY 2011 totaled 5.655 million tons, a 5.5% year-on-year increase and the first rise in two years. A total of 157 ships were built, 10 more than last year. The 49 shipbuilding sites in the region had revenue of 65.57 billion yen, down 3.6% from last year’s record high.
