Fukuoka Company Ordered to Repay ¥1 Billion in COVID-19 Fraud

The Fukuoka Labor Bureau has ordered Arcadia, a Kurume-based wedding hall operator, to repay over ¥1.01 billion in COVID-19 subsidies fraudulently claimed since April 2020. The former company president and others were arrested earlier in February for allegedly inflating employee leave days to receive ¥22 million in employment adjustment subsidies. They were re-arrested on February 24 for additional fraudulent claims during a separate period. Along with the full repayment, the company faces a ¥200 million penalty. This is the largest repayment order ever issued by the Fukuoka Labor Bureau related to COVID-19 subsidies. Source: NHK
