Restored Shinkansen Car Arrives In Hakata

A Kyushu Shinkansen “Tsubame” lead car damaged in the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake arrived at Hakata Port on April 7 following restoration by JR Kyushu. The 27-meter, 30-ton vehicle had derailed during the foreshock and was removed from service. Its restoration coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Kyushu Shinkansen’s full opening. The car departed a Kumamoto port in March and traveled to several ports across Kyushu before reaching Hakata on April 6. It was lifted ashore by crane the next morning and will be transported to JR Hakata Station for public display starting April 10 as part of a commemorative event. Source: NHK News / JR Kyushu
