The current fiscal year interim reports for most of the major Kyushu companies have been released, and of the 54 that reported their sales figures, 41 posted revenue declines, or more than 70%. In addition, 21 companies, or nearly 40% of the total, posted losses in the first half. Those companies whose earnings rose were primarily those who benefited from government publics works projects, particularly in the construction industry, and retailers who specialize in inexpensive products.
