Following up on a suggestion by film producer Yoko Narahashi, who also provides international casting services for Hollywood films, the Kitakyushu-based Sake no Ichiza, a group promoting Japanese alcoholic beverages, is proceeding with the development of a rye-based shochu called Higin for the American market. The shochu is being distilled at Munemasa Shuzo in Saga Prefecture. They hope to commercialize it in December, at which time Narahashi plans to give some to the Hollywood directors and actors she knows. Sake no Ichiza is calling this the “American Dream”, and hope this boosts the spread of shochu worldwide.
