Serious Negative Impact on Local Business Due to COVID-19 Reported

The majority of local businesses reported significant revenue deficits and earnings. JR Kyushu, which is temporarily laying off approximately 800 employees, disclosed a ¥3.14 billion loss. The recently privatized Fukuoka Airport announced a ¥930 million loss, as it experiences a drastic decline in the number of users. Local air company Star Flyer Inc. Starflyer (-¥400 million) and department store Iwataya Mitsukoshi Ltd. (-¥256 million) also announced depressed figures. According to one of the local banks, the new coronavirus pandemic’s negative impact is being reported by approximately 63% of their clients. Additionally, more than 60% of the major local companies stated “undecided” as for their business prospects for the current term (between Apr. 1, 2020 ~ Mar. 31, 2021.)
