Shabondama Soap Co., based in Kitakyushu, has opened a new research and development hub, Innovation Lab Kitakyushu, within the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park. The facility consolidates previously dispersed R&D functions and includes laboratories and workspaces that will be shared with universities and companies for joint research. The company aims to expand its lineup of more than 100 products, including skincare items derived from soap ingredients. It will also internalize data collection processes and use advanced equipment to strengthen research capabilities. Digital tools such as AI for production planning and eye-tracking technology for workforce training are being introduced to improve efficiency and support future growth.
