Large gasoline retailer Shin Idemitsu, based in Fukuoka City, has announced they will enter the megasolar power plant business. They plan to open two 2,000 kW generating plants by 2014 — one in Kitakyushu and the other in Kagoshima City — on currently unused company-owned land. Talks are underway with other companies to jointly develop 1,000 kW plants.
