Shinkansen Benefit to Kumamoto: 19.5 Billion Yen

The Distribution Economics Institute of Kumamoto Area, a Kumamoto City think tank, estimates that the benefit of the new Kyushu Shinkansen line for Kumamoto Prefecture over the past year has been 1.9529 billion yen. This primarily consists of expenditures for lodging, food, and merchandise purchases. The remainder consists of greater income for the employees in related industries, which led to greater consumption. Statistics indicate there was a 10% year-on-year rise in the number of lodgers in the prefecture.
