A Kagoshima-based startup and the Fukuoka Institute of Technology are collaborating to develop a high-power battery using a byproduct of shochu liquor. Daisuke Tajima, Associate Professor at the college, invented a scheme to produce power using carbonized shochu-kasu, the lees of the liquor. Kagoshima and other areas of Kyushu are famous for shochu manufacturing, and the group aims to reduce industrial wastes. Source: PR Times 01/15/2020
