Shorter Summer Vacations For Schools in Fukuoka City – Two New COVID-19 Cases Yesterday

Fukuoka City’s board of education revealed plans for shorter summer vacations this year. To ensure enough class hours amidst prolonged school closures linked to the new coronavirus, the committee is considering holding classes throughout summer, except for the week during ‘Obon’ holidays. Also, extra Saturday classes would be held at regional elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools. The committee recently extended the closures of those schools until May 31. School classes will resume earlier in some areas of Kyushu, including Oita and Saga. On May 9, Fukuoka Prefecture announced two new cases of COVID-19 infections, bringing the cumulative total to 653. One of them was the first case during the past week that involves an unknown transmission route. It was also the second positive case found at a private testing facility in the prefecture.
