Fans from across the country gathered at the JR Kyushu Kokura General Rolling Stock Center to witness the final preparations and test drive of the iconic tourist train “SL Hitoyoshi,” which is set to retire in March next year after 101 years of operation. The train made four round trips on an 800-meter straight track during the test drive, and participants observed various aspects, including the temperature rise in the boiler. The admission fee for the accompanying open house was 50,000 yen, and it sold out on the same day. The “SL Hitoyoshi” will run primarily on weekends and holidays between Kumamoto and Tosu from April 8th until March 23rd of next year. Source: KBC
