After recovering from an early-season slump to capture a second straight league title, the team defeated Hanshin in the Japan Series. Manager Hiroki Kokubo, team chairman Masayoshi Son, and players led the procession along Meiji-dori as an estimated 290,000 fans cheered and displayed congratulatory messages.
