The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology will open the country’s first facility for testing and evaluating the performance of solar cells in Tosu, Saga Prefecture, this spring. Solar cells are viewed as a clean energy source because they do not emit CO2, which some consider a cause of global warming. Several companies have build solar cell manufacturing plants in Kyushu, and the placement of the center here is expected to accelerate that trend.
