JR Kyushu announced plans to operate a temporary limited express train from JR Shimosone Station to Hakata Station for passengers whose Japan Airlines flights to Fukuoka Airport are diverted to Kitakyushu Airport because of Fukuoka Airport’s 10 p.m. operating curfew. The service would replace the temporary buses currently provided by JAL, with JR Kyushu President Yoji Furumiya saying the company hoped to introduce the train as soon as possible. The announcement came alongside the launch of a joint tourism project involving JAL, JR Kyushu, Kumamoto International Airport, and the Kyushu Tourism Organization to attract more visitors from Europe and North America through multilingual promotions, a dedicated website, and overseas travel events showcasing travel across Kyushu.
