Sake brewers throughout Kyushu are voluntarily withdrawing product from the shelves after it was discovered they used moldy rice acquired from Mikasa Foods, which is now embroiled in scandal. The Nishinippon Shimbun reports that upwards of 380,000 bottles will be recalled, causing losses of roughly 600 million yen. Some observers are warning this also could damage the reputation of the brewers involved.
