Tanakas gather in Tenjin for a surname summit

About 200 people gathered in Tenjin on Oct. 24 for the Tanaka Summit. Participants included people named Tanaka from around Japan and their friends. Organizers say Tanaka is Fukuoka Prefecture’s most common surname, shared by about 95,000 residents. The gathering featured a lecture by a researcher studying the surname and opportunities to exchange business cards. Organizers hoped the shared name would help participants build new connections.
