Three Dead, Hundreds of Homes Damaged in Kyushu Rains

Since Aug. 8, successive linear rainbands have brought record rainfall to Kyushu, causing landslides and flooding. Two people in Kumamoto and one in Kagoshima have died. In Fukuoka’s Fukutsu City, two people remain missing after being swept into a river. Across Kagoshima, Kumamoto, and Fukuoka, 732 homes have been damaged, including 3 total collapses and extensive flooding. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.
