Tokyo-based software developer Nisseicom has announced plans to open an R&D hub in an old school building in Arao, Kumamoto. The company will conclude a formal agreement with the city of Arao on Dec. 1 and hopes to have the new facility up and running by next spring. Founded in 1974 as a subsidiary of machinery manufacturer Nissei, Nisseicom develops and sells educational, staffing and accounting software to universities, local government offices and financial institutions throughout Japan. Manufacturing giant Hitachi owns a 30% share of the company. Nisseicom was looking for an abandoned school building as a way to keep costs in check and selected the site in Arao for its proximity to the JR Kagoshima line. It also plans to collaborate with universities in Kyushu on development projects. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 11/28
