The number of vehicles produced by Toyota Motor Kyushu topped five million since the company’s founding 20 years and six months ago. Toyota Motor Kyushu primarily produces Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus models, and 90% of the cars its make are exported overseas to the United States, China and other countries. The company has decided to add a new line at its Kanda Plant where it will begin producing new engines. In 2012, 1.42 million vehicles were produced in Kyushu, which translated into a record 14.9% share of total domestic production. With the backing of Fukuoka Prefecture and other stakeholders, Toyota Motor Kyushu and three other automobile companies plan to boost annual vehicle production in Kyushu to 1.8 million within 10 years.
