Tragedy Strikes at Fukuoka Construction Site

On the afternoon of the 15th, a tragic incident unfolded at a construction site in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, where a male worker was buried in earth and debris. Although he was discovered approximately two and a half hours later, he was unfortunately confirmed dead.

The distressing incident took place around 12:10 pm at the construction site of an apartment building in Kashiihama, Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City. The local fire department received a report stating, “A worker is buried in the soil and is not visible.” Footage captured around 1:30 pm from NHK’s helicopter revealed a large hole, over twice the height of a person, at the site. Dozens of firefighters were spotted manually digging through the debris in a rescue attempt.

The search efforts led to the discovery of a male worker, believed to be in his 50s, approximately two and a half hours later. However, the police confirmed his death at the scene. According to the police and the construction company, the site was undergoing foundation construction for a new apartment building. Heavy machinery was being used to dig a hole approximately 4 to 5 meters deep when the edge collapsed, burying the man who was working below.

The police are currently investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident. The site is located in a residential area, just over a kilometer away from JR Chihaya Station. Source: NHK
