Eight workers of the Fukuoka City office held a farewell party in a restaurant on Mar. 23. Two participants later became infected with the C19 virus. Managers and their subordinates belonging to the city’s road and sewerage bureau were reportedly seated at two large tables in the restaurant and dined for two hours without wearing masks. By Apr. 2, one of the participants had developed fever and tested positive for the new coronavirus. The two patients sit next to each other in the office. (Editor’s note: 1. Guidelines were not breached by holding a farewell event as described in this report and 2. as the last line explains, the two people sit beside each other in their office, raising the possibility of transmission prior or after the outing.)
