Typhoon #24 Approaching Kyushu

According to the Meteorological Agency the 24th typhoon of the year, Typhoon Danas will approach Kyushu as early as Tuesday (10/8). Danas is expected to approach Okinawa and Amami-Oshima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture on Monday before moving northward toward the main island, with predicted high winds and tidal waves. At 6pm Sunday, Danas was about 490 km southeast of Okinawa’s Minami-Daito Island and moving west-northwest at 30 kph. The storm had an atmospheric pressure of 965 hectopascals at its center and was packing winds of up to 198 kph. Typhoon Fitow, the 23rd of the year, veered northwest over the East China Sea toward mainland China after threatening Okinawa on Saturday. Residents of Kyushu should monitor local news and weather reports and follow the advice of local authorities. The force of the winds may be strong enough to break windows, affect street signs and bicycles parked outdoors – take appropriate precautions.
