Typhoon No. 10, a powerful storm, is expected to approach Kyushu around August 30, bringing with it severe weather conditions. The typhoon is currently located approximately 140 kilometers east of Amami City, Kagoshima Prefecture, moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour. As the storm advances, it is projected to strengthen further, shifting its course northward and drawing dangerously close to Kyushu.
On August 28, the typhoon is forecasted to pass near the Amami region with very strong intensity, potentially causing violent winds and high waves. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued warnings for the Amami region, predicting maximum wind speeds of up to 60 meters per second, while other areas in Kagoshima Prefecture and Miyazaki Prefecture could see wind speeds of up to 35 and 30 meters per second, respectively.
Rainfall is also expected to be heavy, with forecasts predicting up to 300 millimeters of rain in the Amami region, 200 millimeters in other parts of Kagoshima, and 180 millimeters in Miyazaki by the morning of August 28. The JMA has advised residents to be on high alert for potential landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels, which could lead to severe flooding.
In response to the approaching typhoon, JR Kyushu has announced the possibility of planned suspensions and extended service interruptions across its rail network. Specifically, the Kyushu Shinkansen may suspend operations from the night of August 27, while the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen could face disruptions from August 28 onward. Similarly, West Japan Railway has warned of potential service suspensions on the Sanyo Shinkansen and Hakata-Minami Line starting from August 29.
Local authorities are urging residents to prepare for the storm by securing their homes and staying informed through official channels. Emergency kits and evacuation plans should be ready, especially in regions prone to landslides and flooding. Source: NHK
